Our Story
My dad had diabetes earlier on in his life. He grew up in a less than ideal family environment which propagated his lack of management of the disease. I would think that when he got married and started a family, it gave him some motivation to manage. For one, I remember him warning me countless times not to stuff myself with sugary and fatty stuff as chance is there for me to be a diabetic as I grow.
A sedentary lifestyle and poor food choices led to me being obese most parts of my life since primary school. Still, I did not listen.
Not till I got into a relationship and eventually had a family of my own. A fatty liver scare fueled the motivation to finally take ownership of my own health journey.
Photo here was taken in Dec 2013, less than a year before my dad succumbed to the host of repercussions that came along with the mismanagement of his diabetic condition. Started with a heart attack, which by grace was mended with a successful bypass. But blood flow to his extremities weakened, gangrene attacked his foot, leading to multiple amputations on both limbs due to poor healing. He eventually passed on due to end stage kidney failure.
It’s not easy to overcome the bad habits of poor food choices and snacking. But it also boils down to our motivations.
That’s why I don’t see Ketojiak as a business, but a mission to provide those actively taking charge of their health with more than viable dessert options, and to advocate the benefits of the ketogenic (sugar-free and ultra low carb, not necessarily super fatty!) lifestyle. So much misinformation and lack of resources still, but every step shall be a good step forward.
And hey, no one can refute the notion that everyone can afford a little less sugar and carbs yep? Even if you really cannot live without your nasi lemak, char kway teow or kaya toasts (though I know of a few keto bakers who do really good low carb breads!), switching to our sugar-free and ultra low carb ice creams and waffles that are in no way of lesser quality than their mainstream counterparts would give you more space in your tummy for those carbs! ๐
And yes… Never heading back to that weight range. ๐๐ผ๐
Happy to be delighting Singapore with our sugar-free and ultra low carb fare; looking forward to your support!ย
Sincerely Yours,
